A 38-year-old woman escaped serious injury Friday after being struck by a Metrolink train when her car stopped on the tracks at San Fernando Road and Drayton Street, authorities said.

The woman, who suffered a deep thigh bruise, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, said Edward Osorio, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials could not say late Friday why the woman’s car had stopped on the tracks, but said the incident was under investigation.

The engineer sounded the horn and hit the emergency brakes to stop the 450-ton train was traveling 70 mph, Hidalgo said. The train struck the woman and her car before coming to a stop.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported, Hidalgo said. Train service resumed at 9:50 a.m.
