In anticipation of a high volume of 911 calls on New Year’s Eve, the Police Department is asking residents to be aware of its nonemergency telephone number, (714) 741-5704. The department receives an average of 125 calls to 911 on a typical day and is expecting twice as many calls Friday. While fireworks injuries or sightings of gunfire should be reported to 911, fireworks violations and reports of gunshots heard are considered nonemergency phone calls. The city legalized the use of fireworks for New Year’s Eve; however, they are prohibited in commercial parking lots, industrial areas and city parks.
