Fly Me to the Moon, or at Least to Long Beach

Let’s just say you’re in love. And let’s say you’re tired of panties shaped like roses, boxers that hemorrhage little red hearts, and other tackily traditional Valentine’s gifts. We’ve got a loftier idea--something on a more elevated plane.
It’s called Island Express, the helicopter service that treks people from L.A. to Catalina Island on ordinary days. But on Feb. 14, you might want to whisk your honey out to Long Beach, near the Queen Mary, where you’ll strap yourselves in for a half-hour aerial tour of L.A.
Imagine the sun setting as you wing your way above Palos Verdes and the voluptuous L.A. coastline, then soar over Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Bel-Air, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, the downtown skyline and so on.
Setting down again in Long Beach, you’ll be seconds away from dinner at Sir Winston’s on the Queen Mary or at the nearby Sky Room. The copter tour is $400 for up to six people.
For reservations, call Island Express, (310) 510-2525.
