Canyon Shut Out by Foothill Tiebreaker

A tiebreaking procedure implemented Thursday eliminated the Canyon High girls’ soccer team from consideration for one of the Foothill League’s three automatic Southern Section playoff berths.
The Cowboys (11-3-4, 5-1-4 in league play) finished in a three-way tie for second with Saugus and Valencia but lost out when their head-to-head records against those teams were factored, Coach Gregg Cohen said.
Cohen, whose team was undefeated against league champion Hart and second-place Saugus, said he does not anticipate Canyon receiving an at-large berth in the Division II playoffs.
Melissa Cleal, a senior halfback and forward on the El Camino Real High girls’ soccer team, has signed a letter of intent to play at Cal State Northridge in the fall.
