Welfare Reform

Liberals would do well to heed Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s warning (Commentary, Feb. 21) about the slow pace of welfare reform in California. I hope that your editors as well as your readers will listen carefully to her message.
Chronic welfare dependency is a social pathology in our society and the sooner we get people back on their feet and working, the better. The concept of a “free ride” for some people is very harmful. We must design policies that instill a sense of personal responsibility and family commitment in our citizens.
