Rojas Leads Garden Grove Past Rancho Alamitos

Gloria Rojas scored 12 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter as Garden Grove rallied to defeat host Rancho Alamitos, 40-37, in a Garden Grove League girls’ basketball game Wednesday.
Rojas made a basket with 22 seconds remaining to put the Argonauts (8-14, 4-4) up by three and finish a 16-7 fourth-quarter run.
Katrice Pickering helped Rancho Alamitos (1-16, 0-7) to a 13-point halftime lead, scoring 10 of her team-high 11 points.
In other Garden Grove League games:
Bolsa Grande 45, La Quinta 42--Debby Baeder scored 15 points for Bolsa Grande (9-12, 5-2), which trailed by five at the half.
Nadiya Aziz scored 29 to lead host La Quinta (5-15, 3-5).
Los Amigos 41, Santiago 31--Karen Alvarez had 13 points and nine rebounds and Monica Curiel had nine points and 10 steals for the host Lobos (7-12, 4-4). Santiago (15-7, 6-2) fell out of a first-place tie.
In nonleague girls’ water polo:
No. 4 Rosary 5, Whittier La Serna 1--Natalie Golda scored three goals and Kelly McNeley two for host Rosary (12-2). The Royals are top-ranked in Division IV.
In Sunset League wrestling:
Los Alamitos 37, Huntington Beach 31--Despite recording four pins, Huntington Beach could not overcome six forfeits in the match. Robert Elliot won, 20-6, in the 160-pound class to lead visiting Los Alamitos (1-3 in league).
Huntington Beach’s Andrew Nunez, who pinned Kimo Macias in the 145-pound match, is 18-0 this season.
