TEHRAN — Iran on Sunday fired two security chiefs responsible for a raid on a university dormitory that prompted thousands of students to protest.
The Iranian government admitted Sunday that one person, an off-duty soldier, had been shot and killed in Friday’s raid.
Witnesses said about 10,000 Iranian students demonstrated Sunday in the third day of protests over the raid, which took place after a small student demonstration against the banning of a leftist newspaper.
Protests even developed in the U.S. in support of the students. About 100 protesters gathered in Los Angeles, 25 in Houston, and a similar number in Dallas.
In Iran, the top security body on Sunday warned students against continuing the protests.
