The City Council recently approved a loan agreement with Interval House Crisis Shelters for the purchase and rehabilitation of a six-unit building on Cypress Avenue near Beach Boulevard. The total purchase price, including closing costs and appraisal, is $760,500. The exact address is confidential because the property will house abused women and their children. Although Councilman Tom Harman voted in favor of the purchase, he pointed out that the loan never has to be repaid. Councilman Dave Garofalo objected because city staff did not provide council with any alternative sites.
