Weinstein Has Five-Star Day

As leadoff batter for Chaminade High, second baseman Lindsey Weinstein already has established her aggressiveness.

But the sophomore was at her scrappy best in the Eagles’ 7-0 victory over Harvard-Westlake in a key Mission League game on Wednesday at Valley College.

The Eagles, ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times, improved to 14-6-1, 6-0 in league. Harvard-Westlake is 11-11, 5-2.

With five hits in five at-bats, Weinstein even caught herself by surprise.

“I’m completely shocked,” she said. “I’m usually more of a slapper.”

Weinstein started with a double to center field and later scored.

For good measure, Weinstein added a triple, drove in a run, stole a base and was flawless on defense.

The support made it easy for right-hander Maureen LeCocq (13-2), who allowed only one hit and struck out three.

“These girls really like playing together and, when they’re focused like they were today, they’re really a sight to behold,” Chaminade Coach Steve Harrington said.
