Gartner Is Honored

Bill Gartner, pastor of Harbor Christian Fellowship, has been selected as the recipient of the Costa Mesa Mayor’s Award for May. Mayor Gary Monahan initiated the monthly award to recognize an individual in the community who has performed an outstanding act, service or good deed.
Gartner was honored for his work with Surrender House, which provides a haven for homeless men.
Gartner has managed Surrender House since it opened in September. Those participating in the program are given a place to sleep, shower and prepare meals.
The only conditions are that they follow the house rules ratified by the Board of Elders of Harbor Christian Fellowship. Gartner said he was drawn to the work because of his dedication to the community. He has lived in Costa Mesa for eight years.
