The soundtrack album for “Hurricane,” the story of wrongly imprisoned boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, will include Bob Dylan’s 1976 “Hurricane (Part I)” along with a new version of the song by the Roots with Mos Def and Common. Also contributing new songs to the set are Melky Sedeck, Meshell Ndegeocello, K-Ci & JoJo (a new Diane Warren composition) and others. The album will be released by MCA in January. . . .
The Jesus and Mary Chain has officially called it quits, members Jim and William Reid have announced. The brothers are reportedly pursuing solo careers. . . .
Pete Townshend’s “Lifehouse” boxed set, which will be released and sold exclusively by the Best Buy retail chain, won’t make its hoped-for 1999 release. Best Buy officials expect the project, which will present for the first time a form of the Who leader’s early-’70s concept piece, to be out early in 2000.
