Fullerton Overpowers Magnolia

Fullerton began the game with a kickoff return for a touchdown and never let up Friday night, rolling to a 48-0 victory over depleted Magnolia in a nonleague game at Westminster High School.
Jose Rangel’s 85-yard return of the opening kickoff set the tone for the Indians, who took advantage of a Magnolia team playing without nine injured starters, including quarterback Jacob Davis and running back Peter Sekona.
The Sentinels committed six turnovers, including three interceptions thrown by quarterback Greg Moye. Fullerton’s David Schatz picked off two passes, both leading to first-half scores.
On offense, Ryan Murray led a powerful Fullerton rushing attack with 14 carries for 134 yards. Daniel Olmos carried 13 times for 77 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Michael Echaves completed only three passes, but two were for touchdowns, to Schatz and Darrell Walker.
Magnolia was led by Moye’s 88 yards passing, and the tough running of Richard Flickinger, who carried for 38 yards. Scott Henry caught four passes for 39 yards, and Jeff Martin caught four for 49 yards.
Fullerton improved to 3-1, while Magnolia dropped to 1-3. The Sentinels hope to have Sekona back for the start of Orange League play. Quarterback Davis is out with a collarbone injury.
