La Habra Fizzles in Second Half, Stays Winless

La Habra, seeking its first victory of the season, led by seven at halftime, but Downey Warren scored 14 points in the second half to win, 24-20, in a nonleague game Friday night at Warren High.

The Highlanders (0-4) opened the game with an effective, time-consuming drive that set up a first and goal at Warren’s nine-yard line; however, they lost possession when Josh Herrera fumbled.

Hector Amezquita recovered a Warren fumble on the very next play, setting up La Habra’s first score, a 30-yard field goal by Brett Weyer .

Quarterback Randall Parra was sacked late in the first quarter, fumbling into La Habra’s end zone for a safety.

With the score tied 10-10, Herrera caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Parra with five seconds to play in the half, giving La Habra a 17-10 lead.

The second half belonged to Warren (1-3), which scored twice in the third quarter and held the Highlanders to 59 yards in offense.

Herrera finished with 180 yards and two touchdowns in 30 carries.

Parra threw for 80 yards on six-of-17 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions. The Highlanders out-gained the Bears, 297-253. Warren quarterback Justin Hamlin completed 10 of 21 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns.
