Ice Dogs Win Opener

Len Barrie scored a key goal in the third period as the Ice Dogs opened their International Hockey League season Saturday night with a 6-5 victory over the Orlando Solar Bears before 9,043 at the Long Beach Arena.
Scott Thomas scored two goals for the Ice Dogs, the second giving them a 5-3 lead in the third period. Andreas Karlsson brought the Solar Bears within one, but Barrie answered on a feed from Pavel Rosa with 2:44 to play to make it 6-4.
The Ice Dogs don’t play again until they face Utah on Friday night in Long Beach.
