When the folks at Draper Fisher Jurvetson heard that the Central Intelligence Agency had established a venture capital company in Silicon Valley to nurture new technologies for U.S. spies, the Redwood City, Calif., firm--a venture capital veteran--decided to pass along some tips to the newcomer.
Among the suggestions sent via e-mail to CIA headquarters in Langley, Va.:
* “Hits” are what we call visits to Web sites, not what you know them as.
* The only bugs we have out here are in our software.
* The term “taking out” is a little different here. When we do it, we’re taking a company public.
* You need to add a .com to your business cards.
* Your agents should learn to play Ultimate Frisbee; it will help them fit in.
