ANTELOPE VALLEY — The California Highway Patrol closed the Antelope Valley Freeway in both directions Sunday night after a semitruck overturned and caught fire near Palmdale.
A Los Angeles County Fire Department hazardous-materials squad was dispatched to the accident, which occurred about 9 p.m. near the Vista Point exit.
CHP Officer Rosa Ray said crackling was heard before at least one explosion ripped through the tractor-trailer. Authorities said the driver suffered minor injuries.
Ray said it was unclear what materials the truck was hauling.
The freeway remained closed late Sunday night.
