* The national AFL-CIO convention opens Monday in Los Angeles, but fans of labor can get an early start today at a union-sponsored Working Families Convocation. Free food, music and games for children are expected to draw at least 5,000 people to the Los Angeles Convention Center between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. At noon, remarks will be given by AFL-CIO President John J. Sweeney, Gov. Gray Davis, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Tipper Gore, wife of Vice President Al Gore.

* Lockheed Martin Corp. named Anthony Tuffo president of its Sunnyvale, Calif.-based missiles and space division, replacing Albert Smith, who was recently promoted. Tuffo has been acting executive vice president of the division since early September, and before then was vice president in the division’s remote-sensing and space-sciences business.
