EBERSWALDE, Germany — German authorities here arrested five suspects Friday in an attack last month on U.S. soldiers that was believed to have been motivated by anti-foreigner sentiment.
Four of the suspects already were named in arrest warrants for similar offenses, police said. During questioning, the suspects--ages 21 to 25--expressed right-wing statements but are not members of a specific gang, prosecutor Gerd Schnittcher said.
The assailants had shouted, “Sieg Heil!” just before the attack in the northern town of Prenzlau.
The Americans, members of a U.S. military band based in Bamberg, had performed at a concert the night of the September attack.
One soldier suffered a broken nose, and the others received scratches and bruises.
