Get Cleaning Checklist

Regarding the Oct. 4 article headlined “Clean Is What the Ex-Landlord Says It Is,” Leta Herman missed a spot.
Instead of waiting until your landlord is your “ex” and guessing what will be deducted for cleaning from your deposit, here’s a better idea:
When you give your 30-day notice, ask the landlord--in writing--for a written cleaning and move-out checklist and also ask what the cleaning deduction would be. Most landlords have a regular cleaning person or service that could provide a price list of services.
Automatic deductions for cleaning are illegal, and with a little communication, everyone can come out smelling like a rose.
