Northern Arizona Wins in Overtime

Northern Arizona’s Travis Brown completed a two-point conversion pass to Francis St. Paul in the third overtime to lift the Lumberjacks over Cal State Sacramento, 51-49, in a Big Sky Conference game on Saturday afternoon at Sacramento.

Ronney Jenkins of Northern Arizona (4-3, 2-2 in Big Sky play), a former standout at Hueneme High, scored three times in the second half, twice on passes from Brown and once on a one-yard run. Jenkins had 157 yards in 29 carries.

Brown completed 39 of 64 passes for 401 yards. Ricky Ray of Sacramento (4-4, 2-4) was 28 of 44 for 343 yards.

The score was tied, 36-36, at the end of regulation.

Portland State, 31, Weber State 14--Jimmy Blanchard completed 22 of 33 passes for 239 yards and four touchdowns for Portland State at Ogden, Utah.

Charles Dunn had a game-high 213 yards in 35 carries for the Vikings (6-2, 4-1).

Blanchard led the Vikings on an 83-yard drive to start the game, capping it with a 10-yard touchdown toss to Terry Charles.

Blanchard threw scoring passes in the second quarter to Cam Carrillo, Charles and Orshawante Bryant. The Vikings led, 28-7, at halftime.

Weber State (3-5, 2-3) scored with 4:26 to play in the first half on Morgan Welch’s two-yard run. Welch finished with 125 yards rushing.

Welch scored in the third quarter on a one-yard blast, cutting the deficit to 28-14.

Montana 25, Eastern Washington 7--Drew Miller threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns, and Montana’s defense had seven interceptions at Missoula, Mont.

The Grizzlies (6-1, 5-1), ranked No. 4 in Division I-AA, took a 10-0 lead on a 22-yard pass from Miller to tight end Dallas Neil in the second quarter.

Eastern Washington (4-4, 3-2) answered with a one-yard run by Jesse Chatman with 5:39 to play in the second quarter.

Miller’s eight-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Watkins put Montana ahead, 16-7, at halftime.

Eastern Washington’s Chris Samms completed 12 of 32 passes for 140 yards and was intercepted five times.

Southern Utah 63, Idaho State 47--Matt Cannon ran for 147 yards and four touchdowns, and threw for 188 yards and another touchdown for Southern Utah (5-3) in a nonconference game at Cedar City, Utah.

Kevin McCarthy completed 37 of 68 passes for 553 yards and five touchdowns for Idaho State (2-6).
