CHIMES FAIR: The 49th annual Golden West Fair, featuring midway rides, children’s games, a farmers’ market, furniture, jewelry, a silent auction and food booths, will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Congregational Church of the Chimes, 14115 Magnolia Blvd., Sherman Oaks. PROGRAM ON JUSTICE: Actor Mike Farrell will present a program on “Justice and Death” at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Sepulveda Unitarian-Universalist Society, 9550 Haskell Ave., North Hills. Farrell’s appearance is a prelude to the November “We Affirm” meeting at which the congregation is expected to affirm a Unitarian-Universalist General Assembly resolution to abolish the death penalty. BLESSED ANIMALS: A Blessing of the Animals ceremony will be held Oct. 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Metropolitan Community Church in the Valley, 5730 Cahuenga Blvd., North Hollywood. The event will feature a 10 a.m. pet blessing, an 11:30 a.m. memorial service for deceased pets, pet adoptions from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and an American Red Cross course on pet first aid from 1 to 5 p.m. The cost is $35 for the first aid course; the services are free.
