Laguna Beach Closes Fast, Improves to 3-0

Laguna Beach scored a 31-10 nonleague victory over Capistrano Valley Christian Friday night at Laguna Beach High.
The Artists ran their record to 3-0, their best start since 1987. Laguna Beach scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns, two by fullback Jack Arnold, who had three in the game and one by running back Pat Chesley.
The Eagles (2-1) had their scoring opportunities, recovering three Laguna Beach fumbles inside the Artists’ 42-yard line in the third quarter. But they could only muster seven points--on a one-yard run by running back Dustin Smith.
Smith rushed for 113 yards in 30 carries, giving him 445 yards in three games.
Laguna Beach scored on the first play of the second quarter on a one-yard run by Arnold, driving 69 yards in eight plays.
Capistrano Valley Christian got on the board on a 31-yard field goal by David Davenport with 5 minutes 42 seconds left in the half.
Laguna Beach quarterback Ryan Schissler completed 12 of 18 passes for 123 yards and ran for 47 yards in six carries.
Laguna Beach hosts undefeated Ocean View next Friday.
