Expensive Lesson

What a delight to read in your Letters Annex (Sept. 5) about the positive travel experiences people have had. In 30 years of extensive travel, I have rarely had a mishap and have found that people worldwide are more than willing to help out a stranger. What a pleasant surprise to find I am not the only one.
My worst experience I brought on myself by arriving in Chicago from Los Angeles for an overseas flight to Dublin and realizing I forgot my passport. An $800 round-trip air fare the same day back to Los Angeles and two days later, I was back on track. But it taught me an expensive travel lesson: Don’t leave home without it!
