School Tests

At my school we lost eight hours of instruction last week to give the Stanford test. Today we will lose two more hours to a special assembly schedule. The next two days we lose six more hours to give a supplementary part of Stanford, called STAR. Coming up: a school-wide quake drill (one more hour lost), required post-testing of all students under Title I (five hours) and still another test, the STEPS, for ninth-graders.
The educational broth, prepared by a multitude of good-intentioned cooks, is almost inedible. Instead of more disruption in the name of “reform,” give teachers time to teach.
