Elian and Cuba

Regarding Elian Gonzalez and his father: The issue is not with the boy’s father or the father’s right to his son but with the fact that Elian Gonzalez belongs to the state and not his father. Has everyone forgotten that under communism, Fidel Castro is the state and Elian belongs to the state?
This is why the Cubans in Miami are up in arms. They know that once on Cuban soil, the boy will be taken from the father and indoctrinated. How quickly people forget the past.

Shucks, Castro must be in his glory. He has opposition to America at home and here. With the foreign flag waving, the crowds demonstrating, yammering, protesting our laws and rulings and with threats galore, it is small wonder that these people are here and not in their country of origin. We are coddling the people whom Castro doesn’t want.

I have now come to feel about the Elian story the same way I came to feel about the millennium. Please, please, let it be over with.
