Law enforcement investigators fanned out throughout South Los Angeles on Wednesday night, searching for a driver who appeared to intentionally ram a California Highway Patrol officer on the Harbor Freeway.
The unidentified motorcycle officer, who suffered a broken arm, was headed south in the carpool lane near Manchester Boulevard about 7:50 p.m. when he was struck by a white Oldsmobile, said CHP Officer Rosa Ray.
Witnesses said the officer, was knocked off his motorcycle and into the center divider. The car, with pieces of the motorcycle stuck in its front bumper, sped away, Ray said.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said the owner of a car fitting the description of the one that struck the officer was taken into custody at his home in South-Central Los Angeles about 10 p.m.
