Arthur Morton; Composer of Movie, TV Scores

Arthur Morton, 91, orchestrator of music for such motion pictures as “From Here to Eternity” and “Chinatown” and composer for such television series as “The Waltons.” Born in Duluth, Minn., Morton had a Hollywood career of more than six decades. He ranged from uncredited work on the score of the 1935 film “The Night Life of the Gods” to orchestration for the eighth “Star Trek” film, “Star Trek: First Contact” in 1996. In addition to “The Waltons,” Morton helped create musical backgrounds for such other television series as “Black Saddle,” “Laramie,” “Bus Stop,” “My Three Sons,” “Peyton Place,” “Medical Center” and “Daniel Boone.” He earned a degree from the University of Minnesota and studied law and philosophy before joining the music department of Hal Roach Studios and later Columbia Pictures.
