CULVER CITY — One man suffered a severed leg and at least four others were injured Friday after a woman lost control of her car and crashed into the Department of Motor Vehicles building, authorities said.
Sherry Jay, 78, of Marina del Rey was waiting in line to take a driver’s test when she inexplicably lost control of her car and blasted through the building’s south wall, said California Highway Patrol officer Karen Faciane.
William Keep, whose leg was severed, was transported to UCLA hospital, where he was in critical condition Friday evening. Three other injured people were transported to other local hospitals, and all are expected to recover, authorities said. A fifth injured person was treated at the scene.
Jay sustained no injuries. She was not cited or arrested, but authorities said they are still investigating what caused the accident and might cite her if they determine she was criminally negligent.
