GLASSELL PARK — A family narrowly escaped injury this week when flames that started in their kitchen consumed their second-floor apartment, authorities said.
More than 30 firefighters were called to the three-story apartment building in the 3400 block of North Drew Street in Los Angeles around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The fire was extinguished within 13 minutes and no one was injured, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
Firefighters believe a malfunctioning overhead exhaust fan in the kitchen caused the blaze, which caused a total of $40,000 structural and property damage.
