Mail Important Items Before Sunday
Although Dec. 31 is the legal deadline for postmarking certain items, it falls on a Sunday this year, and mail is neither collected nor postmarked on Sundays.
Also, New Year’s Day Monday is a postal service holiday. So mail deposited Sunday will not receive a postmark until Jan. 2.
Anyone requiring an end-of-the-year postmark for important mail should get to a post office early Dec. 30. Mail deposited in a collection box before the last Saturday collection time marked on that box will also get the Dec. 30 postmark, said postal officials.
