The City Council recently approved a resolution supporting Measure F, the Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative that would affect Orange County’s plan to convert the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station into a commercial airport.
Measure F, which will appear on the March 7 ballot, would require two-thirds voter approval to build or expand jails, landfills and airports near residences.
The city has been a vocal opponent of the county’s plan because the airport’s proposed incoming flight pattern would run over Dana Point and Laguna Niguel.
