Hively’s Late Goal Gets Aztecs Past Chino

Steve Hively scored in the final minute to help Esperanza defeat Baseline League champion Chino, 1-0, in the first round of the Southern Section Division I boys’ soccer playoffs Friday at Chino.
Hively scored from 10 yards off an assist from Mudawar Sammer for Esperanza (18-6-3), which advanced to play Etiwanda, a 2-1 winner over Redlands. Goalkeeper Luke Sargent had three saves for the Aztecs.
In other Division I games:
Fountain Valley 6, Hawthorne 0--Cliff McKinley scored three goals for Fountain Valley. Kyle Polak had five saves to record his 14th shutout for the host Barons (17-2-3). Fountain Valley, the Sunset League champions, advanced to play Irvine.
Irvine 2, Long Beach Wilson 0--Matt Taylor scored his 37th goal in the first half and Todd Hillman scored a second-half goal for host Irvine (12-2-4).
Santa Ana 2, Arroyo Grande 1 (OT)--Fullback Elton Monterrosa scored five minutes into overtime to help host Santa Ana (15-4-1) advance to play Lynwood. Carlos Nava scored an unassisted goal in the first half for the Saints.
Century 2, Paramount 1 (OT)--Gus Peralta scored in the 23rd minute and teammate Alan Merida scored the winning goal in the first minute of overtime for Century (11-7-3), which advanced to play Santa Monica, a 2-1 winner over Westminster.
El Toro 2, Long Beach Millikan 2 (El Toro wins on penalty kicks, 5-4)--Sem Lopez scored the tying goal in the 73rd minute for El Toro (13-5-5), which advanced to play the Arcadia-Alta Loma winner.
In Division III:
Santa Margarita 3, Pacifica 0--Kyle Carroll scored two goals and teammate John Nebot scored the third for the top-seeded Eagles (20-1-3), who advanced to play Burbank Burroughs.
Foothill 6, El Centro Southwest 0--David McAulay had four goals for host Foothill (15-7-4), which advanced to play at Pasadena Muir in the second round.
Pasadena Muir 2, Fullerton 1--David Magana scored for Fullerton (16-6-4). An own goal against Fullerton provided the winning margin for Muir (8-8-5).
Santiago 3, La Puente Bishop Amat 1--Gustavo Valencia broke a 1-1 tie with a goal early in the second half. Santiago (17-4-4) advanced to play La Puente.
Canyon 2, Valencia 1 (OT)--Chayne Gordon scored the winning goal in the last five minutes of overtime and Scott Ross scored Canyon’s goal during regulation on a penalty kick. The Comanches advanced to play South Torrance.
Sonora 2, Lake Elsinore Temescal Canyon 1--Kyle Warsinski scored the winning goal in the 76th minute for Sonora (12-5-4), which will play Temecula Chaparral.
In Division IV:
Estancia 8, Covina Northview 0--Esaul Mendoza and Freddy Murillo each scored two goals for host Estancia (16-1-1), the second-seeded team. Estancia advanced to play Orange Lutheran.
Orange Lutheran 3, South El Monte 1 (OT)--Jason Talmage had 11 saves for host Orange Lutheran (15-6-2). Sean Silva and Robert Farrington scored overtime goals for the Lancers.
Torrance Bishop Montgomery 4, Calvary Chapel 1--Josh Kisseberth scored for visiting Calvary Chapel (10-11-3). Bishop Montgomery (18-2-1) is top-seeded.
In Division V:
St. Margaret’s 3, Ontario Christian 0--Donny Reid, Bobby Oakes and Erik Hallenbeck scored goals for host St. Margaret’s (15-6), which advanced to play Palos Verdes Chadwick.
