A man was killed instantly in a head-on collision with a big rig on the Pearblossom Highway in Littlerock on Monday morning, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Also Monday, authorities identified the Acton man who was killed in a single-vehicle accident over the weekend.
Early Sunday, a Ford pickup driven by James J. Venable ran off the Antelope Valley Freeway near the Crown Valley Road exit, according to the CHP. The truck overturned and the 48-year-old Acton man, who had not been wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the accident Monday, a man thought to be in his mid-40s was headed west on the two-lane California 138 in a Toyota pickup truck when the accident occurred at 9:05 a.m.
“He was traveling at a high speed and for an unknown reason, [he] veered across the center line and struck a semi head-on,” Antelope Valley CHP Officer Tom Goris said.
The truck driver was uninjured, according to the CHP.
The highway remained closed in both directions for four hours while the accident scene near 89th Street was cleared, authorities said.
The coroner’s office has not released the name of the victim pending notification of relatives.
