Tangled tree roots embedded with plastic surgical gloves created a clog last week in a Leisure World sewer manhole.
Bob Hill, assistant general manager of the El Toro Water District, said technicians unclogged the plugged manhole Jan. 4 and are continuing to check the public sewer system for problems.
The Leisure World manhole churned about 380 gallons of raw sewage into Aliso Creek, Hill said. Although the El Toro Water District cleaned Leisure World’s spill, other communities with many trees and dense vegetation are vulnerable to the same problem, Hill said.
