Buena’s 70 Straight Don’t Rate

The Buena High girls’ basketball team registered its 70th consecutive Channel League victory Thursday by defeating cross-town rival Ventura, 42-32.
While the victory allowed Coach Joe Vaughan to reach the milestone of 600 and avenged a defeat to the Cougars (17-1) in an early-season tournament, it leaves Buena (16-4) a long way from the state record for consecutive league victories.
Kennedy holds the record at 136, set from 1979-90.
Brea Olinda is closing on that mark, having won 111 in a row before the start of this season.
No other school in the top 10, which begins at 87 consecutive victories, has an active streak.
