Top-flight L.A. jazz scene veterans Doug Webb and Sal Marquez head a quintet performing tonight in Sherman Oaks. Saxophonist Webb, whose playing has been described as “melodic-minded and hard-swinging,” has performed with Freddie Hubbard, Doc Severinsen, Horace Silver, Bill Holman, Tom Jones and Kyle Eastwood, among others. Trumpeter Marquez, who has recorded with Woody Herman, Buddy Rich and Frank Zappa, was featured in Branford Marsalis’ band on “The Tonight Show” several years back.

Classic Film
The Alex Film Society will screen the classic film musical “Gigi” Saturday in Glendale. The 1958 film, which won nine Oscars including best picture, director (Vincente Minnelli) and screenplay (Alan Jay Lerner), starred Leslie Caron, Maurice Chevalier, Louis Jourdan and Hermione Gingold. The Lerner and Frederick Loewe musical score includes “Thank Heaven for Little Girls,” “Gigi” and “I Remember It Well.”

Blues
Willie Chambers of the legendary 1960s rock band the Chambers Brothers, performs Saturday night at B.B. King’s Blues Club. The group’s 1968 hit “The Time Has Come Today” so captured the essence of the 1960s era that it has since been used in several films, including “The Doors” and “Coming Home,” to evoke the atmosphere of that time.

Alfresco Music
The Freeway Philharmonic, Dan Melendez and the All-American Boys Choir make up an eclectic musical menu Sunday at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank. Meanwhile, reggae music by the group Common Sense will be featured at Canyon Country Park in Santa Clarita.
