DENVER — Ken Griffey Jr. hit two two-run homers Thursday night and the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Colorado Rockies, 13-6.
Griffey, whose 30 homers tie him with Mark McGwire of the St. Louis Cardinals for the major league lead, also scored four times in the 45th multihomer game of his career and fifth this season. In his last three games, Griffey has 12 runs batted in.
Sean Casey, Barry Larkin and Pokey Reese added homers as the Reds extended Colorado’s season-worst losing streak to eight games.
Tempers flared in the eighth after Red starter Elmer Dessens (2-0) grazed Larry Walker with a pitch. Walker started toward the mound and both teams emerged from their dugouts, but no punches were thrown.
Rocky Manager Buddy Bell was ejected after arguing with umpire Dana DeMuth. Bell felt Walker was hit in retaliation for Colorado starter Pedro Astacio (7-6) hitting Griffey in the back in the fifth.
Colorado reliever Jose Jimenez was ejected in the ninth after hitting Ed Taubensee, but no players left their dugouts.
