General Electric Co. Chief Executive John F. Welch Jr. took home $93.1 million, including $13.3 million in salary and bonuses, last year as the company’s stock rose 52%. Welch, slated to retire in April 2001, was paid $3.3 million in salary and a $10-million bonus, almost a third more than in 1998, the company disclosed in an annual filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also received $31.3 million in long-term incentive payouts under a grant GE gave executives in 1997, split between cash and restricted stock payable upon retirement, a payment he didn’t get in 1998. The company’s shares rose almost fivefold in the five years ended in February.
