While City Council members grapple with the idea of a legal settlement with City Manager Arthur C. Simonian, Yorba Linda’s city attorneys are going ahead full steam: holding daylong depositions, handing out subpoenas and preparing for a battle in court.
The city is suing Simonian to recover as much as $300,000 in bonuses he allegedly paid himself without the council’s authorization. Simonian has in turn sued the city seeking his job back.
To date, four city employees, including Simonian, have been questioned under oath by the city. The others are Mary Kinney, a Finance Department employee currently on disability leave; Assistant City Manager David Gruchow; and former Finance Director Vicki Baker, who gave part of her deposition on Friday.Baker is expected to continue her deposition today.
