Guard, Robbers Exchange Gunfire

Two men attacked an armored truck at a Sears appliance service center Saturday afternoon, opening fire on a guard before speeding off in a white Chevrolet Astro van, police said.
The guard returned fire but apparently missed the robbers, said Lt. Kathleen Sheehan of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division.
“Everybody must have been nervous, because nobody hit anybody,” Sheehan said. It was not clear whether any money was stolen during the attack, which began shortly before 1 p.m. at 11961 Sherman Road.
Paramedics took the guard, who complained of neck pain, to Pacifica Hospital of the Valley in Sun Valley, said Bob Collis, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.
The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division is investigating the shooting.
