The Festival of Arts board decided Tuesday to extend its negotiation period with San Clemente for 45 days, ending June 19.
“We are hoping to have an agreement for consideration sooner than 90 days,” said festival President and Mission Viejo Mayor Sherri M. Butterfield. “[The negotiations] are going extremely well and we are gratified at the efforts that San Clemente has extended.”
The festival board also decided to direct its attorney to work with San Clemente’s attorney to draft a formal agreement.
The festival architect will also rearrange some of the proposed buildings on the property to better fit the site.
San Clemente and the festival are eyeing a 15- to 20-acre property near the Talega development, where the festival would have room to expand from its current 5.6-acre site.
