The City Council has delayed until July 7 a decision on whether to authorize construction of an Orthodox Coptic church on South State College Boulevard. The St. Verna Orthodox Coptic Church asked for the delay to further modify plans that include building a 300-seat church and school in a residential neighborhood. Some neighbors have protested against the construction, saying the church will increase parking and traffic problems in the neighborhood. Church officials say the plans have met city standards.
