The City Council is scheduled Monday to discuss whether to use eminent domain on two businesses in Huntington Center to clear the way for a shopping center called The Crossings at Huntington Beach.
City officials, as well as representatives from Montgomery Ward and Burlington Coat Factory, are expected to speak during the meeting.
The Irvine-based Ezralow Retail Property LLC is planning to redevelop the 58-acre Huntington Center into an upscale “Italian village” shopping center, generating an estimated $1 million for the city annually in sales and property taxes.
The plan, however, does not include Burlington or Wards, although the latter owns its mall property and Burlington has a 30-year-lease with Ezralow.
City officials have been working with representatives from the companies to relocate the businesses and employees.
The City Council meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall at 2000 Main St.
