A 27-year-old Port Hueneme man was killed Thursday morning when a Jeep Cherokee broadsided the car in which he was riding at Pleasant Valley Road and Rose Avenue in Oxnard.
Jose Antonio Davila, 27, was pronounced dead at St. John’s Regional Medical Center about 7:10 a.m., authorities said.
Senior Deputy Coroner Investigator Mitch Breese said Davila died from head and body injuries when the Toyota Camry in which he was riding was hit by the Cherokee about 6:30 a.m. Another passenger in the car, Juan Carlos Zurita, sustained a cut to his left shoulder and was treated and released from the hospital.
The driver of the Cherokee, Miguel Martinez, 20, of Oxnard, was not injured in the crash, which spun his car 360 degrees. The driver of the Camry, 29-year-old Tomas Nambo of Oxnard, also was not injured.
Traffic investigators from the Oxnard Police Department are still trying to determine whether one of the vehicles had run a red light. It was not known if either the Camry or the Cherokee was going faster than the posted 45 mph speed limit.
