Months of public debate over a family’s plan to build a second-story addition to their 80-year-old Park Place home was ended this week, when the City Council voted to support the proposal.
Council members voted 3 to 2 Tuesday to approve the plan, supported Sept. 27 by the Planning Commission.
The project was first proposed last year by Martin Zazzara as a means to accommodate his growing family. Neighbor Ed Rakochy protested, claiming the addition would harm the historical integrity of the neighborhood, one of the city’s first settlements.
Changes were made to the original proposal to reduce the addition to 578 square feet--enough room for a master bedroom, bath and walk-in closet.
