POINT REYES STATION, Calif. — The nation’s first coast-to-coast trail has officially opened in the Bay Area.
The American Discovery Trail has been 11 years in the making. It stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific over 6,356 miles in 15 states and British Columbia.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, the trail winds up Mt. Diablo, past UC Berkeley and across the Golden Gate Bridge.
Trailblazers hoping to walk from coast to coast can expect to spend at least a year.
The trail ends at Point Reyes’ Limantour Beach on the West Coast.
