Delaine Eastin, California state superintendent of public instruction, visited Sonora High School in La Habra on Thursday to congratulate Jack Hawkins, the school’s science department chairman and latest recipient of the California Teacher of the Year Award.
School officials took Eastin on a tour and displayed different programs, such as the Agriculture Academy, which holds 150 students and includes instruction in agricultural biology and agricultural mechanics.
“She’s such an advocate for teacher and student success,” Principal Karla Taylor said.
Toward the end of the visit, Eastin met with school staff and officials in an informal lunch gathering.
