* The Southern Pacific Railroad Depot at the corner of Lankershim and south Chandler boulevards is the oldest unmodified railroad structure remaining in the San Fernando Valley, a monument second only in age and significance to Campo de Cahuenga.
We must not pave it over in the name of progress or merely to make way for more parking. There are several alternatives for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to ease the parking situation around the new Metro Red Line station. We must find the initiative to develop the site into its full potential.
The Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency created a plan to rehabilitate the property.
As the voice of young leaders in the east Valley, the Jaycees are responsible to all generations of Angelenos--past, present and especially future. We support the CRA’s development plan for the depot along with the restoration of Phil’s Diner. Protect the depot and review the CRA proposal to give our children a deeper understanding of their character.
