Slovakian Women Still Have Chance

Zuzana Zirkova scored 18 points and Slovakia beat Senegal, 68-32, to keep alive its chances of reaching the quarterfinals in its first Olympic women’s basketball appearance.
Slovakia (2-3) will finish fourth in its pool if Brazil beats Canada later Sunday.
If Canada wins, Slovakia, Brazil and Canada will finish in a three-way tie with two advancing on goal average (points for in games among those teams divided by points allowed).
Russia 92, New Zealand 54--Irina Rutkovskaya scored 18 points to lead Russia (3-2), which had already secured a berth in the quarterfinals. Whether it finished second, third or fourth depended on the outcome of Sunday’s later games.
In men’s play, Italy defeated France, 67-57.
