*** Sharon Shannon & Friends, “The Diamond Mountain Sessions,” Compass.

The Irish button-accordion virtuoso has enlisted Steve Earle, Jackson Browne, John Prine, Hothouse Flowers and other folk-rock notables on an album that’s less a celebration of star power than a warm exchange among musical comrades. The common ground is the Celtic music that morphed into Appalachian folk music centuries ago, and the result is disarming in its modesty. Shannon plays April 27 at Cal State Northridge.
